Hyunsa SuSa Training October 2026
SuSa from multiple Hong Ik Martial Arts locations gathered together on October 11th at the Tarrytown DoJang. This monthly training under Grand Master Yoo allows students and Masters to enhance their understanding of SuSa curriculum, enhance their skills, and deepen their understanding of Hong Ik Philosophy. These trainings are essential for SuSa to set strong examples for others through their leadership. On this day their practice incorporated the following:
- Warm-ups
- Led by MyungSa Ryan Geagan
- Review of SuSa Recruit to Apprentice Curriculum

- Teaching method 5 aims ready stance
- Teaching method 5 steps horseback stance

- As one team together all SuSa worked together to hit a ball in the air 21 times without the ball touching the ground or one person hitting the ball consecutively.
- When the group was unable to make it to 21 Grand Master Yoo lowered the goal to 12 and then 9 which the group was able to reach.
- Grand Master Yoo touched on the importance behind certain numbers such as the ones chosen as goal numbers. For example, 12 is the amount of hours both in the am and in the pm, 12 eggs in a dozen, 12 primary energy channels, and 12 disciples of Jesus. 12 is also the rebalancing number of the earth. As the earth has to, the SuSa were encouraged to rebalance their energy to reach their new goal!
- In referencing the Korean flag 9 is the peak of active energy and in regrouping and focusing their energy again the SuSa were able to reach the new goal of 9.
- Hong Ik Message
- Grand Master Yoo encourages students to remember it is important for all locations to believe in the power of positive, strong energy. This energy comes from within us and is shown through our actions, attitudes, and the way we treat others. When we share positive energy we can inspire the people around us to become better versions of themselves. If becoming a SuSa was an easy goal, everyone would understand the commitment required and want to achieve it. However, becoming a great SuSa requires dedication, patience, discipline, and a sincere desire to help others. It can take time to develop the kind of energy that comes sincerely from the heart but the rewards are meaningful and lasting.
- It is important to pass this knowledge on to others. As SuSas it is vital to experience the happiness that comes from giving rather than just receiving. Teaching is not just about showing someone their new curriculum or how to do a specific technique. It is about teaching respect, confidence, and perseverance. SuSas must lead by example and demonstrate the values they want other students to display. By putting forth sincere efforts Susas can help students overcome challenges and discover their own potential. A great reward is watching students grow and become confident enough to guide others themselves.
- Teaching others helps you become more patient, understanding, and compassionate. It reminds us that we are always learning, even when we are responsible for teaching. Eventually, students may grow to a point where they no longer need our guidance and you can take pride in knowing you helped them become independent. This allows knowledge, values, and positive energy to pass from one generation to the next.
- Grand Master Yoo also reminded the SuSas that life is temporary and death is an unavoidable part of being human. Since we cannot control how much time we have, we should use our lives to make a positive difference. We can share our knowledge, help people grow, and contribute to a legacy of strong values. Ultimately, the goal is not to become SuSa but to use all we have learned to benefit others and make the world a better place.
