Master Yoo’s Self Defense Techniques
Groin Kick
No. 1
Useful when opponent is in open stance (feet even). Apply front snap kick using instep of foot, targeting the genitals. Be sure to apply full snap and stay at safe distance by leaning upper body backwards as you perform the kick.
Solar Plexus Kick
No. 2
Useful when opponent is in boxing (closed) stance. Apply front snap kick using ball of foot, targeting solar plexus. Be sure to use full snap (this is not a push kick). Keep you upper body level so that momentum of the kick remains horizontal, into solar plexus. If done properly, opponent will “cave in” and feel a sharp stabbing pain knocking the wind out of him or her.
Chest Kick
No. 3
Useful when opponent is in boxing (closed) stance. Apply front snap kick using entire foot (heel and ball of foot) and aiming at opponent’s chest, by the heart. Extend your hip forwards for added power and reach. This is a thrusting kick that will disable your opponent and gain some distance.
Optional: For added momentum, you may also skip forwards into the kick with the opposite leg.
