My First Open Taekwondo Tournament Experience | Hong Ik Martial Arts of Bronxville
Oh, the excitement of tournament day! We woke up at 5:30am and by 7:30, we were checking in at Queens College for the NY Open Taekwondo Championship. One volunteer helped my son with his badge, and another tried giving me a spectator badge. I politely said “No thank you. Participant badge for me please :)” Then they were so excited that a parent was participating and wished me luck.
I performed the Taeguek Yuk-Jang while my son performed Taeguek Oh-Jang — both were the current forms we were studying in class. Performing them in the tournament allowed us to work on them more deeply. We were happy with our performance that day. Our technique grew tremendously in the lead up to this tournament. Winning medals was a nice side effect of that growth.
We’re now looking forward to signing up for the next tournament!
