Tumbling Workshop – February 2026 | Hong Ik Martial Arts

Tumbling workshop – FEBRUARY 2026

The Winter 2026 Tumbling Workshop was held on February 28, 2026 at Hong Ik Martial Arts of Tarrytown. Grand Master Yoo supervised the day’s event, which was broken up into 2 separate times.  Group 1 was all Level 1 candidates.  Group 2 included levels 2, 3, 4, and 5.

 

Group 1:

– Susa Warmups 

– Basic stance and kicking practice to gradually raise body temperature, followed by somersault instruction with Grand Master Yoo.

– 3 groups divided for somersault practice with the safety mat.  Students went one by one with Masters Jorge, Chun Shim, and Shin Min to ensure injury prevention and clear understanding of the skill being taught.

– Shoulder Roll with Grand Master Yoo

– 3 groups were separated and followed the same protocol as done with the somersault, but now with the shoulder roll and on the regular martial arts mat flooring.

– Reverse Shoulder Roll in 3 groups.

– Group Running Jumping Somersault over shields

– Su Shik Accumulation training with Grand Master Yoo

– Certificate Ceremony

 

Group 2:

– Susa Warmups 

– Basic Horseback Stance Punching, Rising Kick, Level 1 Tumbling Workshop techniques review, and Hoi Jun Bup #1 (Spinning Shoulder Roll) with Grand Master Yoo.

– Level 2 led by Master Jorge

   1) Forward Spinning Shoulder Roll  

   2) Standing Spinning Shoulder Roll

   3) Combination #1 (Forward Spinning Shoulder into Reverse Nak Bup Shoulder Roll

   4) Combination #2 (Somersault into Forward Spinning Shoulder Roll, turn around, Reverse Nak Bup Shoulder Roll)

 

– Level 3 led by Grand Master Yoo

   1) Side Nak Bup Practice

   2) Hoi Jun Bup # 3 

           – stay on the ground   

           – sitting up with arm assistance

           – standing up 1/4 squat with arm assistance

           – standing up 1/2 squat no arm assistance

           – standing up 3/4 squat no arm assistance

           – Full Sequence Hoi Jun Bup # 3

 

– Level 4 led by Master Chun Shim

     1) Back Roll from Ready Stance into Kicking Stance position

     2) Side Nak Bup Back Roll into Kicking Stance

     3) Combination #3 Side Nak Nak Bup Back Roll, Forward Spinning Shoulder Roll, Roll Back Handstand

 

– Level 5 led by Master Shin Min

   1) Shadow Spinning Shoulder Roll 

   2) Pike Back roll Standup

   3) Jumping Superman Punch

– Group Running Jumping Somersault over shields (Level 5 does running Jumping Superman Punch)

– Su Shik Accumulation training with Grand Master Yoo

– Certificate Ceremony

 

We hope everyone enjoyed the event and encourage all participants to practice these skills. This will allow all TWS attendees to build off a solid foundation and be better prepared for the higher levels in late 2026 and 2027.  On the acrobatic techniques taught other than the somersault and back handstand, we recommend getting one side down well, then move onto being able to replicate that from the other side.  Please don’t hesitate to ask your regional location Master if you need any help remembering details when you are tumbling training.  Thank you to all parents and families for your support.  We will see some of these skills displayed at the Hong Ik Martial Arts Festival SUSA/MUSA Demo Team Performance on Saturday, June 13, 2026 at Irvington High School.
