The Philosophy Of Tae Kwon Do
The Tae Kwon Do philosophy is not to fight, but to create a more peaceful world. When studying the art of Tae Kwon Do, the individual will be taught how to develop their character and personality. They will come to understand that they are the foundation and must have strong ethics and positive morals. Only upon a strong foundation, possessing the right attitude and characteristics, can success or the end goal be reached.
Tae Kwon Do develop the positive aspects of practitioner’s personality
Tae Kwon Do works to develop the positive aspects of each practitioner’s personality. These include courtesy, respect, goodness, loyalty, trustworthiness, courage, humility, perseverance, patience, self-control, integrity, and an indomitable spirit. A sense of responsibility and a respect for all life are also nurtured, creating a caring, compassionate individual. The training to reach these goals is difficult and many are not successful. What is important is the mental, physical and spiritual effort each individual puts forth. These are what develop the positive attributes and impact how the individual is seen and sees others.
Tae Kwon Do molds an individual into a responsible and well-rounded person. This person can then pass on these attributes and beliefs to others through their actions and teachings. Individuals can unite and become families and these families can then unite and create communities. Communities unite and become nations and each is stronger than the last. Tae Kwon Do begins with just one person, but their impact can rock the world.
The Philosophy Of Tae Kwon Do
This change is not easy. Just as an individual must undergo metamorphosis as they move from one belt level to the next, eventually reaching Master, so the nations must grow and prosper under the laws of peace. It is a long hard task, but Tae Kwon Do strives for this merging and unification. Nationality, creed, and race are not part of Tae Kwon Do. This philosophy endeavors to reach the total development of every individual resulting in the creation of a peaceful world. It does not matter a person’s religion or the color of their skin, Tae Kwon Do seeks only peace among all. It is believed that as an individual finds this peace within themselves, it is possible to achieve peace among all nations.
The goal of Tae Kwon Do is to develop the mental and spiritual aspects of each person’s personality. The physical side of Tae Kwon Do is merely a means to this end. A seed is planted with each practitioner and may one day grow into a peaceful world for all.
