Meaning of Jeol(=bow)

‘Jeol’ is a expression of both ‘저:Jeo(My)’ and ‘얼:Eol(Spirit)’.
A ‘Jeol’, which is expressed from a healthy body and a bright mind, is not only beautiful and noble, but also delivers a communication with mother nature.
Depend on mental states of person, ‘Jeol’ can be expressed whether beautifully or perversely.
When a person ‘Jeol’ on one’s opposite, it is a gesture of respect for human beings.
On the other hand, if a person ‘Jeol’ in front of nobody, this person expresses his or her gratitude to the other human being or mother nature through spiritual connection.
Accordingly, we can persue harmony with the others and mother nature through proper ‘Jeol’ that makes energy filled with respect and gratitude.

How to ‘Jeol’

1. Harmony and Concord: Bring hands on ‘Dahnjun'(lower part of the abdomen) then cross thumbs and place right hand on left hand. (Figure of hands reflect Taegeuk)
2. Respect: Flop on knees quietly.
3. Gratitude: Move forehead to the ground

절의 의미

절은 저의 얼을 표현하는 것이다.
건강한 육체와 밝은 마음에서 표현되는 절은 아름답고 숭고하기 그지없고 대자연의 감응까지 불러온다.
절은 절을 하는 사람의 정신상태의 등급에 따라 수려하게 표현되기도 하고 삐딱하게 드러나기도 한다.
대상을 직접 보고하는 절은 인격체에대한 존중의 표시이다.
대상이 없는 상태에서의 절은 개인과 타인격체 또는 개인과 대자연과의 영적인 연결을 통해서 감사의 마음을 전하는 것이다.
그래서 우리는 올바른 절을 통하여 존중과 감사의 마음이 담긴 기운을 발동시킴으로써 나와남은 물론 나와대자연과의
화합을 추구할 수 있다.

절을 하는 법

1) 두 손을 포개서 단전 앞에 두는 것은 조화/화합을 의미한다.( 엄지를 교차시키고 오른손을 왼손위에 포갠다.이것은 태극의 형상 즉 조화를 상징한다) 이때에 하늘의 조화로운 덕을기린다.

2) 조용히 무릎을 꿇고 앉는 것은 존중을 의미한다. 이때에 땅의 순종의 덕을 기린다.

3) 이마를 땅에 닿는 것은 감사를 의미한다. 이때에 선조들의노고에 감사를 드린다.
